Wed. eve, April 11th:
Amarillo, which by any other name would still be just another Interstate fly-by town. Today's drive took us from Mesquite to Amarillo, Texas, rolling hills, wild flowers peeking in reds, pinks, and blues. We're now approximately 1900 miles from Hollywood and about 2.5 hours from Santa Fe. Yup, with our flyover driving we're two days ahead of schedule so as a bonus stop we've booked two nights in Santa Fe before proceeding on to Taos.
Driving downtown Amarillo we spotted a number of quarter horses, escapees from the local museum we presume. This one has been sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.
The lovely Lady Karen frames our loaded caravan, now a two seater to make room for all of our gear and clothes for this trip. And with temps in Taos still in the 20s I guess we'll be needing the warmer clothes sooner than later.
Tomorrow? Off to Santa Fe, a walk-about town galleries, and hopefully surrounding countryside.

The road less travelled
In one week, Ron & I begin our long trek up to Alaska. Today's task was measuring the car and measuring the bags. I never thought we'd have a problem, but Ron needed the reassurance that we will fit into the car.
The car -- our 2010 GM Equinox has a box on the roof, and a hitch tray on the back. We've removed the back seat also. Whatever fits, fits.
We'll be camping and motel-ing our way, taking 6 weeks to get to Alaska, another six weeks or so in Alaska, and then about two months more to Chicago, to the East Coast, and down the east coast - getting us back home about 6 months after we leave.
Six days and counting. Stay tuned for updates.

Clink - Here's to Retirement
With a bit of luck, a dab of planning, a modicum of circumstance and speck of wisdom - we, Ron and Karen, have taken early retirement. We are facing it with grins on our faces, and wings on our feet - home projects to keep us busy, volunteer opportunities to keep us useful, and travel to feed our souls, and lots of ideas for recipes to feed the rest.
It is all of it, and more that we want to share on our blog ....our walk 'On the Road to ... and other travel...'
Hopefully you will enjoy and comment on our thoughts and muses.
